Special Sunday Sailing - 30th July 2017

Firstly thank you to the Brisbane Club for allowing Wmrmyc to host our Special Sunday sailing at the Carbrook venue.

An rare afternoon session was held that attracted 15 boats. Several practice races were held before a series of scored races were held. Breeze was shifty from the north west and after a period of no wind settled in to a good yet shifty wind more from the north of around 7 to 10 knots.

Proving the longevity of the Iom class there was a diversity of winners ranging from a Cockatoo design through a Cheinz and on to a Tnt and a Britpop. Notable as well was a win and good results by an owner builder boat.

The races were generally two laps generally with a gate to leeward and later a clearing mark at the top of the course. The start line was a little tight and there were several boat that were 'very' close to the start time at times however everyone went on to have an enjoyable day even despite the mention of some premium refreshments as prizes.

Race wins went to Dale, John Gower, Peter, John Dousi and Jim and most competitors featured near the front at times. A few races saw many of the fleet abreast at the downwind scoring line making it very hard for the volunteer scorer. The full results were not tables however basic calcs had Tony in 5th (20) Mike in 4th (18), Jim and Peter equal 2nd (17) and John Gower with 15 points in 1st despite a Dnf in one race.

In total 8 scored races were held and while the breeze was still consistant the setting sun was starting to make things a little difficult. A couple of lucky draw prizes finished the day and I am sure all skippers look forward to the next Special Sunday Session.
