Summer 17/18

WMRMYC Inc Club Championship 2017 Round 3, Carbrook - 14th January 2018 [FINAL]

The final round of the club championship series was sailed at the Carbrook venue with a huge thanks to the BRYC for allowing WMRMYC to utilise their venue.

WMRMYC Inc Scratch Summer Series Round 3, Manly - 7th January 2018

The first racing for 2018 kicked off this weekend for Round 3 of the Scratch Summer Series. With Peter setting the course for a light Nor’easter and sending us on a port course of 2 triangles and 1 sausage.

This combination seemed to keep the fleet clear of each other and gave us a decent upwind work, the only adjustment needed was the start line as the tide allowed.

Racing got underway just before 10 with 11 starters and all skippers were told to keep on the grass and clear of the footpath, this seemed to work well and gave us all plenty of shade as the sun started to kick in. There were 5 different winners for the 10 races and a lot of close finishes keeping Bruce on his toes. I was finally able to show the ability of the K2 with some solid wins, Peter also seems to be getting the hang of his 4000th boat he has built (RED), Andrew sailing his Pikanto also had a solid day and without 2 DNFs as drops he might have challenged Peter for 2nd. Another mention has to go to Scott after starting off slowly and also helping out new members while he was racing in his first race, Scott came home strong being the 2nd best boat for the 2nd swing of racing.

All skippers must be thanked for a well sailed day with minimal infringements. Also a big thanks to John, Bruce, Peter and Scott for all the work you guys put in to get us sailing each week.

WMRMYC Inc Handicap Summer Series Round 2, Manly - 17th December 2017

20dec1Last meeting for 2017 even brought me out of the shadows, a good gathering of eleven skippers and great to see Eddie and Bruce. I believe the wind came in steady from the NE but not without the challenging wind shifts making for a few tacking duels and odd collision.

Thanks to Peter for setting the course of two laps with the only change halfway through from a gate on return to a single port buoy. The results showed for some close racing and competitiveness with John & Ray equalling for 2nd and Andrew & Eddie for 5th.

Thanks to the boys attending to the BBQ, Scott wore the traditional Ozy hat. Thanks to everyone for a relaxed enjoyable day and wishing you and your families a very Merry Christmas. Look forward to meeting up again in 2018.
