Summer 17/18

WMRMYC Inc Scratch Summer Series Round 2, Manly - 3rd December 2017

SUN 3rd December 2017 115A course of 2 triangles and a sausage was set for the light NE breeze that greeted the skippers. I had my Tara design yacht firing and notched up some early wins.

Dennis sailing his aged TS2 (about 15 years old) winning three races was making his presence felt with some excellent results. Sure makes a bloke think about the TS2 Design, especially someone like myself who has built the odd boat or two.

The wind shifted to the N and a new course of 2 windward and leeward legs were set. The wins were spread around but consistency won the day for me. Congratulations to Dennis for his fine 2nd place and to Tony and Scott for their tied 3rd place. Overall the day was a great days racing.

 Regards Peter.

WMRMYC Inc Handicap Summer Series Round 1, Manly - 19th November 2017

SUN 19th November 2017 168Well, the forecasts were correct. There was something there for everybody. The wind direction constantly varied during the morning which required the sailing committee to consider course changes for each race.

A heavy rain squall followed by a dead calm made race three interesting.  Because of the heavy rain and the run off into the harbour, some boats suffered badly with debris on their keel.

A break was taken, hoping that the conditions would settle. Two more races were run but, with the outgoing tide, the debris problem increased and an end to the days racing was called.

Despite the varying conditions, and the debris, the competition between  individual boats was keen and close during all races with some very close finishes.

The final result shows that three boats tied for first place. This must be a record for the club.

For some though, the best part of the day was the sausage sizzle.
